  1. Today we met with our groups for the first time and had about twenty minutes at the end of class to begin to talk about our projects. The ideas we came up with were a weather/temperate backpack and a thing students can cook with that is a fire hazard. The idea that I think we are going to go with is the temperate backpack because that is interesting and also more realistic. This means that the backpack would heat up when it’s cold, cool down when it’s hot and we even talked about maybe having an umbrella when it rains. I think this backpack would be very useful and personally when its negative degrees like it was this past winter I would love a backpack that heats up. I think we could sell this pretty easily to kids our age because it’s realistic and helpful. I think we should keep our brochure relatively on the smaller side and include a lot of pictures because let’s be honest, who wants to read paragraphs upon paragraphs in a brochure. (Not me). I’m intrigued on how these brochures are going to come out and interested in starting.

  2. We met briefly with our groups and were able to create an idea for this product project. My group decided to do a temperature controlled backpack. This meaning that it is able to be heated when it is cold, and be able to cool down when it is hot. We believed that this would be useful for college students, especially on our campus, due to the fact that we need to walk in such extreme temperatures in the winter as well as late into the spring. In order to sell a backpack I think we are going to need to appeal to the college audience as a whole rather than adults, so we are likely going to create something rather playful, while also keeping it logical in the sense that the student will understand why they will benefit from this product. This will likely be the feel of the brochure, but we are still very early into the developmental process, so that could very well change.

  3. My group of Elia and Mya have chosen to invent an app called “Find Your Way – (UNE)” which will function as a dual buddy system/carpool app. The logic behind it is to promote safety by allowing students to find others who have similar schedules to walk far distances on campus, together. The app will also allow people who share similar schedules to carpool to/around campus. This will reduce carbon emissions, and also be a great way for students to find friends, and save money. We would consider having both student and security staff testimonial to promote the accessibility and safety of the app. To prevent safety concerns, to enroll in the app you will need to input a college PRN, email, and also verify your identity using photo ID. The app won’t share your location with anyone, only those who have similar schedules, and the app will ask for your permission to contact someone. You can also prefer genders of people you would like to buddy system/carpool with, so that everyone feels comfortable with their “buddy”. We think our brochure will have an earth themed car on the front to promote the environmental benefits of carpooling, and will have images of students together to promote the communal aspect.

  4. Our product is a mountable cloud dishwasher. The cloud dishwasher is designed for dorm living, apartment living and Van/camper life or for anyone else who needs a dishwasher but would like to save space. The cloud dishwasher is environmentally friendly and easy to use. We were thinking that the dishwasher could be loaded from the top and the inside mechanics would work like a drink vending machine. The dishwasher will only be used for plates, bowls, cups and silverware, no pots and pans. There will be multiple different colored and pattered sets of plates, bowls, silverware that will be sold with the dishwasher that are made to fit specifically in the dishwasher. The dishwasher can hold 4 cups, 4 plates, 4 bowls and 10 pieces of silverware at a time. At the top you will load the dishes into the appropriate slots and load up the soap and water. For the soap there will be little packets like tide pods shaped like suns and clouds that you load into a pop out tray like there is on a washer and to load the water there will be a clear jug on the side that you can fill up to the appropriate line like a Keurig. When the dishes are done drying they will come out the bottom and we had a plan for exactly how that was going to work but now I forget what it was.

  5. The idea that we decided to tackle was the idea of a backpack that can regulate the body’s temperature based on its surrounding environments. If you’re hot the backpack will cool you down and if your cold it will cool you down. Living in Maine the temperature is never consistent so why fight it when you can adapt to it. That is why we decided to come up with this idea. I think in terms of testimonials, students here on campus or just the everyday backpack enjoyer will be just fine to get the word out there. We have not come up with a slogan or an image just yet but that is currently in the works as well as the product name itself. This is because it is currently in development. The “feel” of the brochure should be visually appealing while also seeming fun and hip. The aim is students, so keeping things relatable and sustainable is the key here I believe.

  6. The product that my team of myself, Mya, and Alexa have been thinking about is an app for college campuses that can work as a car-pooling system for commuters and students who need to coordinate local trips or even rides home for break called “Find Your Way (UNE). We also had a walking component to the app where you could create buddy systems with syncing schedules to promote campus safety and also meet new people. We also think it would be important to have a high level of security on the app to ensure the safety of its users, and since it would be something created for a university to implement, there might be components of a student long in/authentication. We think this could be important on multiple levels as it would promote sustainability and environmentally conscious behaviors such as car-pooling, it can be money-saving for students as they can reduce gas costs, and it can also help students feel more connected with their peers and safe. We might get testimonials from members of UNE’s sustainability staff, the director of safety and security on campus, and students who have used the app. Images could be of environmental-like scenes, whether it be a green globe with a clip-art of multiple people in the car could be two people holding their phones with the app connecting with arrows to indicate their route. Slogans might have something to do with whether people are walking or driving that they can feel connected. The feel of the brochure would be map or route themed with emphasis on the connection of students, environmentally friendly with maybe some stats on emissions they would be lowering, etc.

  7. My group did a lot of brainstorming last class and came up with various different ideas for a product. We did not yet settle on one yet, but we have a few that we might choose from. One of our ideas was a backpack that could be helpful in organizing work between classes. The backpack might have dividers or sections that make it easier to control what goes where. Another idea was to create something that could help students manage their time more effectively. This could be through an app or a device that reminds students of their daily schedule and work that is due. Our ideas will be narrowed down more and hopefully decided upon during the next work session.

  8. My group did a lot of brainstorming around something that would help students keep in good health while being very busy and often forgetting the basics such as healthy meals, restful sleep and staying hydrated. We haven’t totally ironed out our product yet; however, we are headed toward a “nutrition wearable”. Our product will be adjacent to a Fitbit or an apple watch. It will interact with your hormone levels to let you know when you need to take a break, hydrate, eat, sleep, etc. We talked about how this product can be something a university could purchase for their students. We also discussed different subscription levels that could unlock different features to get the most out of the product. As mentioned, nothing is set in stone yet; just getting the ball rolling.

  9. During our brainstorm session we came up with a lot of great ideas and we didn’t trim it down to just one. We had a couple of vague ideas, one was something to help us with time management, maybe an app on your phone. Another idea was to help with organizing, a backpack with dividers in it for each one of your classes so that loose papers won’t be all over your bag. You also won’t lose anything important. We have a lot go great ideas in our heads, we just need to narrow them down to just one. And hopefully we will be able to by our next group session.

  10. We did a lot of brainstorming last class and my team and I came up with a product that will wash and dry dishes. We want the product to be compact and out of the way so that it doesn’t take up much space, making it suitable for a college dorm or apartment living. We also made a point to make our product visually appealing. This product is a wall mount in the shape of a cloud, with a vending machine-styled mechanics on the interior that sort, wash, and move your dishes. One of the defining traits of our device is its “rain drop mechanism” where it attaches a clip to the dishes internally and once they have finished washing inside the cloud, the dishes will drop, hanging from a string to dry like rain falling below the cloud.

  11. Our product is a wearable self-help device. It’s important for the lives of college students because, for many of us, it is our first time living away from home without our parents’ guidance/supervision, and it’s easy to stray away from simple healthy habits such as eating enough fruits and veggies and making sure your living space is clean. This product will help students keep their health in check, which should improve overall happiness and motivation. To sell this product, we would need positive, affirming testimonials from college students, particularly first-years newly away from parental guidance as well as seniors who have been managing themselves for a few years now and are most likely under the most stress. Images depicting the product’s different styles, applications included on the device, and happy and healthy-looking students could be effective. A slogan could be something about your mama that will never nag. The overall “feel” of the brochure will be bright, exciting, and inspiring.

  12. The product that we are selling is the Dishrainer. This project would be a smaller dishwasher designed to be more portable than regular dishwashers. It is also designed to fit in smaller spaces such as college dorms, apartments, and RVs. We thought that many college students complain about having to do the dishes and want a faster way. We also noted that there are few locations within the upperclassmen dorms to wash dishes as there are no dishwashers in either the dorm kitchens or the community kitchens. We would probably want to use testimonials from current college students and other users. We might also use testimonials from college officials to sell the products to not just the students, but the housing staff. We would probably want to use images that fit the product’s themes, such as clouds and the sky. We could design a logo incorporating these elements, especially the cloud, as that is what the product is designed to look like. We would also use images of college students or others in spaces that would fit where the Dishrainer is marketed, such as college dorms, RVs or vans. The brochure’s feel would reflect the products’ bright sunny vibes.
