  1. For my video, I want to integrate the psyche up/ calm down parts of the video together. I am thinking of acting out an interview scene with slowed down periods of time, where I narrate an inner dialogue for myself. For example, I want a moving scene of me entering an interview room. Before I take a seat, the action freezes, and I begin to narrate how I prepared for this moment. I might have flashes of the ocean and other nature elements and say affirmations like, “It’s natural to be nervous right now. Anxiety is an evolutionary adaptive trait that helped protect our ancestors. Use this key piece of our evolution to spur your creativity, heighten your senses, and channel it towards becoming the candidate this company can’t pass up.”
Then moving forward, I will introduce myself to the interviewer, and then they’ll ask a question. I will do a similar effect to the first scene, with an action-stop. This time I’ll flash to me reviewing my cover letter, the job qualifications, and noting traits about myself to refer back to during the interview. I’ll say some affirmations like, “I am prepared for this interview. I know my qualifications, skills, honorable traits. I can recall situations where I was a leader, a team player, under pressure, rejected, failed, succeeded, and I am ready to present myself in the best, confident light. I aim to impress.” Then I’ll flash back to the interview scene.
I might do this another 2 or 3 times until I can fill up the time requirement, and then the interview will end and I will do another dialogue that’s like, “No one is perfect. Every interview is another opportunity to do better. Don’t be too critical of yourself”, etc. Then I will do a jump freeze like they do at the end of high school musical.

  2. So for our project we decided to kind of split between a calming project and a hype project. For the calming part we could do pictures of waves with calming music or the ocean. That seems to be a pretty universal sign of calmness. We could do a breathing counter to remind people to breathe or include some kind of relaxing yoga poses. Then for the opposite the hype could be inspirational music and maybe a reflection of the person watching the video to kind of get the feeling proud. We also talked about including 2 ways of grounding and 2 ways of affirmation which we could fit in accordingly. We still have some drafting to do and the last class was kind of hard since most of our group (including myself) wasn’t in class but I think if we do some brainstorming in the next couple of days that it will help us establish a better plan.

  3. For my video, I have a few different ideas for what direction I could take my video. I think I would rather my video be centered around calming down rather than psyching up, so the tone of the video will be more laid back and relaxed. I am planning on having a voice-over of myself speaking and reading a calming script. Such as one that describes a peaceful place that the viewer/listener can take their mind to before an interview to relax. I don’t know if it would be best to include music in the video, but I was thinking that some type of white noise like ocean waves or forest noises would be a good addition. I have considered having myself on screen, but I think it would be more calming and relaxing to have images or videos of a peaceful place or calming message. Plus, that would avoid me having to watch myself back and critique myself. I am planning on using our next class time to work on a script for my voiceover.

  4. For my Calm down/Psych up video combination (I am thinking of it as a calm and inspiring vibe), I have selected some images and videos of the beach and nature as the background for my video, placed audio of music as well as calming ocean sounds, and am now working on the text and audio overlays. I wanted to have music that, while calming and relaxing, had a quality that felt uplifting to try and create an atmosphere where someone watching could forget about the stressful parts of an interview and focus on the optimistic side of things. As for the text and audio, I will open with a few lines to let the audience know what this video is for and offer some validating words to get in the right mindset. I also want to have a breathing exercise that would begin and end the video as a nice way to round off the video, and I will include just the text to prompt this. The one thing I want to make sure the video captures is that while its okay and normal to be stressed out and anxious before a big event like an interview, don’t get swept into a negative outlook; remember that we can be nervous but also excited about the new possibilities and use that to calm us down. Calming qualities can also be going over everything you have control over, such as reading your resume and cover letter to refresh your memory, practicing well-known interview questions, and reminding yourself that you have done the work and have the qualities to show yourself in the best light.

  5. I like the idea of using nature sounds as they are both calming and make me feel alive. I think mine will also focus less on talking and more on displaying statements on the screen. I feel awkward hearing my own voice, especially in a lower-quality manner that this assignment will require based on equipment availability. We had to make a nature sound recording for one of my previous classes, so I might utilize that as the audio is already stitched together. It would be interesting to reincorporate the visuals back in as I made the sounds while walking through the forest here at UNE. I also might credit Nikki Lindt and utilize some of her underground sounds to create a more spacey atmosphere to give affirmations in. Since the audio’s already stitched together, most of my focus will be on reincorporating it to where it belongs and adding the new audio. Once that is done, I can focus on adding text to have my affirmations as part of the video. I’ll need to write those out and figure out how to incorporate them.

  6. During the drafting process of trying to figure out what to say, I mostly focused on the guided questions presented below on the rubric sheet. I thought this was a perfect springboard for what I wanted to accomplish. I really wanted to make it more of a conversation rather than a motivational TED Talk. I feel like a lot of public speaking is more of storytelling and sharing the experiences that helped you rather than pitching yourself as the best performer out there. I definitely want to put images in the background of the video if at all possible to give them something physical to look at to help the process. Not only, but I would like to include music in the background as well as an intro/outro. In terms of having a script, I really just jotted notes of ideas and things to talk about in order to drive the point that interviews don’t have to be scary and there are tons of things people can do to calm themselves as well as hype themselves up during this stressful time.
