After completing the brochure project, I can honestly say I had fun getting outside my comfort zone creatively and through group collaboration. It was refreshing to have different opinions and ideas from the group. For example, I had an idea of pricing our product at $200 with school tuition but it wasn’t fully developed. We had to consider who it would be offered to and how it would fit into an overall product payment. Other members of my group were able to think about the price from a different angle and carry the idea to completion. I’ve also learned how fluid the AIDA model is throughout various forms of communication. It acts like a formula that you can add your own creative spin to and craft to your target demographic as we did with the brochure. Overall, I felt the work we produced was good, it covered most of the guidelines for the rubric and got us to think outside the box. One thing I would have liked for this project was more time to fine-tune the brochure; I would have spent time strengthening our concepts like the ‘getting started’ page to further explain how our robot works with the app which would help develop the interest and desire aspect for our project.
As you probably already know, group projects are hard for me. I’m always nervous to speak up or nervous that I speak too much. With this project I had lots of ideas but simply explaining them was hard and several took too much, maybe outside the box, knowledge. Anyway, as a group we came together with a great idea. I wish we had had more time to think through the ideas and discuss how each of our work would work together. I guess that is the collaboration part, right? Well anyway, if we had had more time we could have collaborated more, and the project might have been even stronger. But that’s life. We don’t always have all the time in the world to do something, so we have to do our best with what we’ve got. I think we did that.
After completing the brochure, I learned a new creative way to promote information to try to persuade others why it is important. I am used to doing regular presentations, so this was an interesting experience! I realized this project was more “thinking outside the box” than just doing research and then presenting it to an audience. The work we did as a group went well! However, I do wish there was a little more time to “finalize” everything and fix any overlooked errors. I appreciated the collaboration and cooperation we had as a group, especially since I had a conflict with the class we had to work on it. Being able to communicate over email and in a document made things easier! Overall, I think this project was fun to work on and I gained insight on how to “sell” a product to a crowd.
This project, as a whole, was so much fun! I am always tentative walking into group projects because, in the past, I have carried a larger workload than my teammates. However, this time around, everything felt very evenly balanced. I got to work with an incredible group of people who all contributed their unique skillsets to produce a really fun final product. While some members created graphics and logos, others workshopped mission statements and slogans. As a whole, we brainstormed a product that incorporated a bit of everyone’s ideas. I have learned that one of the best ways to split a workload is to allow people to do the part they excel in, even if it might seem like ‘less’ work than another role. For example, the people who are good at writing create the bulk of the writing, the people who are good at artwork on designs, and people with skills in communications help with graphic design stuff. However, the important thing is that everyone provides each other feedback on their work. As a whole, this process felt unusually easy because of how wonderful my group is to work with.
I found the brochure project to be very fun. It proved to be an outlet that allowed a certain degree of creativity, which made it feel distinct from the resume and cover letter projects that we completed earlier in the semester. I enjoyed the group aspect of the project as well. My group was great, everyone was willing to put in work toward the project to make sure that it was successful, and everyone was very responsive in corresponding through emails and Zoom to make sure that we had everything finished on time. I understand that not all group projects will be quite as cohesive, but for this particular instance, it was a good experience because everyone put in a good amount of work and effort. Additionally, through the brochure project, I learned how to use Canva, which is a software that I’ve never used before.
After the completion of the brochure project, I feel extremely happy and accomplished with everything our group managed to come up with for this procedure. I was able to learn about an effective marketing strategy that will become handy in the idea of advertising and finding a target audience. Furthermore, it allowed us to be a lot more creative when it came to constructing ideas and putting an appealing project together. Compared to other assignments like the resume and cover letter, this one was less restricting and allowed for more creative freedom and to experiment with different scenarios and ideas. The most important thing I learned from this project was the idea of a “Pitch”. It was mostly in the actual presentation but also learning about how to sell the main ideas and points to a target audience. I now know how I can convince people about a certain idea I have in presentation form, without worrying about it sounding like some sort of argument. Overall, the collaboration and planning with my group was not only effective, but just really enjoyable. It was engaging and informative, and that is what I look for in every group assignment.
Overall, I think my group had a lot of fun with this project while still producing something of really high quality. The brainstorming sessions were fun and creative, and I felt very comfortable working and laughing with members of my group. I felt as though we each tapped into our strengths and combined them in a way that made working together easy and effective. The main piece I worked on was the product description, and I found this to be a fun style of writing that I wasn’t previously familiar with. I’m used to writing quite seriously, so this fun, creative and branded writing style was cool to explore and practice.
While completing this project I have learned how a brochure should work for a company and for the consumer. Each page of a brochure has a specific objective and if you don’t meet that objective your work will not have the same effect that you intended.
Overall I had a great experience working on the brochure. It was a fun process working on this with a group and getting to bounce ideas off of each other.
